TDA Organiser Licences
TDA establishes three licences for organisers of trackdays, circuit training, and competition‑like sporting activities. The licences constitute sporting permits that enable on‑track activities and ensure that the organiser meets legal requirements, workplace safety obligations, and safety standards.
1. TDA Organiser Licence – Legal requirement under the Motor Racing Insurance Act
Under the Swedish Motor Racing Insurance Act (1976:357), organisers must have a specific insurance policy when hosting competitions, training, demonstrations, or practice sessions within an enclosed racing area.
The law was introduced because standard motor insurance does not apply on racetracks, and to protect third parties and spectators in the event of personal injury or property damage.
The requirement applies to the organiser (or the track owner if no organiser exists), and the insurance must cover up to 100 MSEK.
The insurance does not cover riders, passengers, or officials.
The TDA Organiser Licence establishes rules and requirements that help organisers comply with this legal obligation.
2. TDA Officials Licence – Protection under workplace safety legislation (AML)
In the past, a group of friends could rent a track without considering workplace safety responsibilities. Today, officials and instructors working at an event fall under the organiser’s workplace safety obligations according to the Swedish Work Environment Act (1977:1160).
This applies to the majority of all trackday events — whether non‑profit or commercial — regardless of whether personnel are paid or volunteer.
The organiser is responsible for safety, instructions, and risk management, and may be liable for damages under the Swedish Tort Liability Act (1972:207) if an official or instructor is injured.
The TDA Officials Licence provides the organiser with clear, tailored protection for officials and covers a predetermined number of officials per day, with the option to expand if needed.
3. TDA Instructor Licence
Instructors riding on the track are not covered by the Officials Licence when they are on the motorcycle — at that moment, they are considered riders and require an Instructor Licence or equivalent.
The organiser is responsible under AML for ensuring that the instructor has appropriate protection.
The Instructor Licence is personal and follows the same conditions as the TDA Rider Licence, allowing the individual to also ride as a participant at other approved events. It is the role, not the person, that determines which protection applies.
Insurance
The insurer is If Skadeförsäkring AB (publ).
The insurance is an integrated part of the licence and follows TDA’s safety regulations. TDA is not an insurance intermediary.
Organisers do not resell licences and do not act as insurance distributors — all licence administration is handled directly between TDA and the rider.
