DRIVERS/RIDERS NORDIC

Why is a TDA Rider Licence needed?

Riding on a circuit is described using many different terms — training, competition, trackday, licensed riding, open riding, timed sessions, competition-like conditions and enclosed area — and they are often confused with one another. It can therefore be difficult to work out what applies to your particular riding. Always check with your own insurer what your own cover includes for riding on a circuit.

The TDA Rider Licence has been created to provide clarity and to give the rider a practical, workable solution for open riding, trackdays, training and competition-like activities. The licences are sporting permits that enable circuit activities and give circuit owners, riders and organisers a common basis for legal requirements, work environment obligations and safety standards.

What the licence includes

Rider Licence Nordic is designed to work in practice and gives the rider a clear framework for riding on circuit. As a licence holder you are covered by TDA's group insurance with If Skadeförsäkring AB (publ), in accordance with the policy terms provided by the insurer.

The insurance is included in the licence and cannot be added or opted out of. It is handled entirely by If. The insurer is If Skadeförsäkring AB (publ). TDA is not an insurance intermediary.

Circuits and events

The licence applies at TDA-approved circuits where the organiser has taken out motor sport event insurance (motortävlingsförsäkring / RC, civil liability) through TDA, SVEMO or another insurer. See the terms for details.

Trackday organisers approved by TDA

Your TDA Rider Licence applies at an event if three things are true: the organiser is on the list below, the circuit is TDA-approved, and your licence type covers that circuit. Check all three before you book — approved circuits are on a separate list.

Organisers on this list also run events at circuits TDA has not approved. An approved organiser is not enough on its own; the circuit has to be approved too.

Check dates, entry requirements and conditions of participation directly with the organiser. What they cannot tell you is whether your TDA licence applies — that is settled by the lists here.

The lists only show where a TDA Rider Licence applies. They are not an assessment of an organiser's safety standards.

TDA's role

TDA is a licensing organisation that sets rules, requirements and safety standards for riders and organisers. The framework gives all parties a common and clear basis to work from. TDA's documents describe licence rules, safety requirements and organiser processes.

Training material

TDA has produced a simple training package with a self-test, available for download under Documents. Please read it before purchasing a rider licence.
