RIDERS INTERNATIONAL
Why is the TDA Rider Licence International needed?
To ride on a circuit abroad, circuit owners and organisers require you as a rider to have adequate cover. The solutions offered locally, or bought as general extreme sports insurance, often carry limitations that make them hard to assess for track riding specifically. TDA has developed the licence together with riders, organisers and circuits to provide cover that is adapted to how track riding actually works.
What the licence includes
The licence gives you travel insurance cover adapted for motorsport at approved circuits. What is covered — including ambulance transport, medical care, hospital treatment, repatriation and protective equipment — is set out in If's policy terms, which are found at the bottom of this page.
The insurance is included in the licence and cannot be added or opted out of. The insurer is If Skadeförsäkring AB (publ). TDA is not an insurance intermediary.
Good to know — liability insurance (RC, Civil Liability)
For trackdays in Sweden and abroad, liability cover is needed for damage caused to third parties while riding on circuit. This is separate from your personal accident insurance, and it is not normally included in standard policies: the liability section of a home insurance policy generally does not cover damage caused by a motor vehicle, and motor third-party or comprehensive motor insurance normally does not apply on a circuit.
In Sweden this is handled by the organiser, who is required to hold motor sport event insurance (motortävlingsförsäkring) under Swedish law (1976:357). Abroad, established organisers hold equivalent liability insurance covering participants, but practice varies.
Always check directly with the organiser before booking what liability cover is included in the event, and what may be required of you as a participant.
Circuits and events
The licence applies at TDA-approved circuits.
Trackday organisers approved by TDA
A TDA Rider Licence applies at an event when the organiser is listed below, the circuit is on TDA's list of approved circuits (separate list), and your licence type covers that circuit. Check all three before you book.
Organisers on this list also run events at circuits TDA has not approved. Listing an organiser does not by itself cover every event they run.
Check dates, entry requirements and conditions of participation directly with the organiser — organisers do not verify TDA insurance cover.
Listings reflect the scope of TDA Rider Licence cover only. They are not an assessment of an organiser's safety standards.
TDA's role
TDA is a licensing organisation that sets rules, requirements and safety standards for riders and organisers. The framework gives all parties a common and clear basis to work from. TDA's documents describe licence rules, safety requirements and organiser processes.
Training material
TDA has produced a simple training package with a self-test, available for download under Documents. Please read the material before purchasing your Rider Licence International.
